Our Siberian Cats and Kittens Have Low FEL-D1 Levels
FEL-D1, produced largely in saliva and sebaceous glands of cats and kittens, is the major allergen responsible for symptoms. In Western countries, the prevalence of cat allergies has increased dramatically to 10–30% in the general population.
A kitten's allergen level is an inherited trait. A kitten from two parents with very, very low allergens will also have a low allergen level. Hypo means “below normal” or “slightly”. The word "hypoallergenic" is used to describe items that cause or are claimed to cause fewer allergic reactions. Hypoallergenic pets still produce allergens but they produce far fewer allergens than others of the same species. Our goal, at Katlina Siberian Cats, is to produce cats and kittens with the lowest possible FEL-D1 levels. We collect samples of saliva from our adult Siberians and have them shipped to an international biotechnology laboratory which measures the levels of FEL-D1 allergens. We use these results to breed only those cats with the lowest levels of FEL-D1. |
Laboratory TestingWhen our cats reach maturity, their allergen levels are tested by an independent laboratory. We only breed cats whose allergen levels are scientifically proven to be the very lowest.

Best of BreedThe extra trouble and expense to test allergen levels is necessary if we are going to produce the best quality Siberians kittens with the highest possible hypoallergenic qualities.
